Using the Dashie Console

The Dashie Console is where you manage everything about your Dashie household — your tablets, family members, calendars, photo albums, AI personality, voice settings, and account. It's the same UI whether you reach it on the web or from inside Home Assistant.

Use the tabs below to switch between the two paths. The tabs apply to the whole page — pick once, and every section will show the right instructions for your setup.

Most of the Console works the same on both paths

Family members, AI personality, voice settings, and photo albums all look and behave identically whether you're on the web or in HA. Devices is where the paths meaningfully diverge — the in-HA Console can talk directly to your tablets through Home Assistant and surface live metrics, history charts, and instant controls the web Console can't see.

What you need

Opening the Console

Sign-in is the one place the two paths look visibly different. Both end at the same Console UI.

Open app.dashieapp.com/console in a browser. Click Sign in with Google (or your account provider). You'll be sent to Google's standard sign-in and bounced back to the Console.

The session sticks in browser cookies — close the tab, open it later, you're still signed in. Sign out from the Account menu in the bottom-left of the sidebar.

Click Dashie Console in your HA sidebar (or open Settings → Apps → Dashie Console → Open Web UI).

First time, you'll see an 8-character code. On your phone or laptop, open app.dashieapp.com/auth, sign in, enter the code, and approve. The HA Console stays signed in across HA reboots.

Managing your devices

Devices is your fleet view — every Dashie tablet, TV, or kiosk display tied to your account. Each device shows up as a card; click into one for details.

The web Console covers the cloud-synced layer of every device:

  • See every device on your account
  • Rename devices, set room labels
  • Change theme, sleep schedule, screensaver mode
  • Set photo album, layout mode, font/display size
  • Archive old devices

Per-device settings sync to the device the next time it checks in with the Dashie cloud (usually within seconds while it's online).

Click any card to open the device detail page, where you can rename it, change its theme, configure its sleep schedule, pick a photo album, and adjust other per-device preferences.

The in-HA Console does everything the web Console does, plus:

  • Live metrics — battery, RAM, Wi-Fi, current screenshot, refreshed every few seconds
  • History charts — click any metric chip to see 1h / 24h / week / custom-range graphs
  • Direct controls — turn the screen on/off, adjust brightness/volume, lock the device, toggle the screensaver in real time
  • Discovered devices — tablets running Dashie on your network that aren't yet on your account, with a one-click Adopt button

The in-HA Console reaches your tablets through the Dashie HA integration, so controls happen in real time over your local network.

Technical view toggle

The button at the top of the Devices list flips each card between a simple summary view ("what's playing on this dashboard") and the full technical view (every metric, screenshot, and control). In the in-HA Console it defaults to ON.

Click any metric chip on a card — battery, RAM, Wi-Fi — to open a history chart with presets for 1h, 3h, 6h, 12h, 24h, 3d, 1w, 2w, 1m, plus a Custom range picker.

If you're running Dashie on a tablet that hasn't been signed into your account (a pure-kiosk install, say), it'll show up at the bottom of the Devices list under Discovered. Click Adopt to claim it into your account — no sign-in required on the tablet.

Family members and calendars

The Family section is where you add the people in your household, link their Google calendars, and decide whose schedule appears on each dashboard. Same UI on both paths.

For each member you can: link a Google account (for calendar sync), pick which calendars are visible to Dashie, assign a color and icon, and decide which devices should display their events.

AI personality and voice

Under AI & Voice (sometimes shown as "Dashie Voice" on the sidebar) you'll find the settings that shape how Dashie talks back. Personality presets, custom prompts, wake word, voice selection, and which AI model handles requests. Same UI on both paths.

Voice changes propagate to every device on your account: pick a new personality on the Console, and the next time the tablet wakes up it'll use that personality. Wake-word changes take effect at the device's next reboot or settings refresh.

See Dashie Voice Setup for the full personality-and-voice walkthrough, plus Voice Control Setup for the wake-word details.

Photos

Photos lets you build albums that show up on your dashboards' photo widgets and on the screensaver. Add photos by uploading from your phone or computer, or by linking a Google Photos album. Same UI on both paths.

Each device picks its photo source independently — useful when one tablet shows family photos in the kitchen and another shows vacation pics in the bedroom. You choose the album per-device in the Devices section.

Troubleshooting

I'm signed in on web but the in-HA Console asks me to sign in again

That's expected. The web Console uses browser cookies; the in-HA Console runs inside a separate ingress-isolated session and signs in independently via the device-flow code at app.dashieapp.com/auth. You only need to do it once per HA install.

My device shows up on web but not in the in-HA Devices list

The in-HA Console only sees devices that are also registered as HA devices via the Dashie integration. Make sure you've completed Parts 1–3 of the HA setup guide. If the device exists in HA but isn't on your Dashie account, the in-HA Console will surface it as Discovered with an Adopt button.

Changes I make on the Console don't appear on my tablet

Most settings sync within seconds while the device is online. If a setting isn't taking, check that the device is awake and connected (battery icon, last-seen timestamp on the device card). Photo album changes take effect at the next photo refresh interval (a few minutes by default).
